What's floating inside my eye?

Asteroid hyalosis is a benign eye condition that is characterized by white spots or specks that appear to be floating in the vitreous body, although they are actually anchored to the collagen fibers of its structure. It usually worsens with age although it almost always has a smaller impact on the patient's sight than what the doctor expects from finding such a swarm of opaque particles in the eye. Asteroid hyalosis may be treated with surgery (vitrectomy) if it actually causes significant visual symptoms, with excellent results.
